ABOUT

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a doer, connector, creator -
I make things
to still my mind
and busy my hands

I make things
to marvel at where I’ve been
to consider where I am
to wonder where I might go

I’m hoping to surprise myself

I want to tell the truth -
to inspire others to tell the truth
The truth is -
I make art because I don’t want to avoid myself

BIO

I’ve been an artist in fits and spurts since childhood. I hold a BFA in printmaking from California College of the Arts and a MS in Occupational Therapy from San Jose State University. My current practice is based in a life-long exploration of somatic practices and healing, mindfulness/meditation, and self-inquiry. I work with a felt sense—a bodily intuition and curiosity—until an unconscious storytelling is revealed in the material expression. My process is an interoceptive journey of self-inquiry in which I attempt to track and respond with authenticity to an internal conversation between sensation, urges, thoughts, feelings, and somatic response. After a period of dialogue, I begin to solve or resolve the piece visually, after which I “read” my art like a map or divination tool. I work as an OT in mental health with teenagers, and am a former yoga teacher. I have a passion for guiding individuals and groups to connect to an intuitive place within and express from that inner brilliance.
